“Psycho” the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, considered to be his scariest movie. The movie is based on the book by Robert Bloch. It was written in 1959, it’s about a hermit motel caretaker, Norman Bates, and the horror of his life and the motel. Norman Bates is played by Anthony Perkins and Vera Miles plays Lila Crane. The movie is loosely based on the serial killer Ed Gein. Ed Gein’s murders were in Wisconsin, he was also a grave robber.
The movie Psycho has so many memorable scenes. The shower scene is so famous because it has never been done before. It was a movie that was from the 60s’ and things were just making a turn in the film business. In film and TV shows, bathrooms were never shown. In fact, bathrooms weren’t even mentioned. TV shows like “Leave It To Beaver”, had shown the boys in the bathroom and almost got the TV show canceled. On other TV shows like “I Love Lucy”, they couldn’t say the word “pregnant”, these family-friendly TV shows were to keep a clean look for television and things started to change when family-friendly became more eccentric.
The shower scene is when lead girl Lila is taking a shower, and she gets brutally stabbed by her killer. The scene was so dramatic and heart-racing. The movie was banned in many countries including the UK because of these scenes. The movie also had some notable controversial scenes, but none as famous as the shower scene.
This movie was controversial but it was groundbreaking. There was no movie like it, it broke so many stereotypes and the rules of filming. It’s considered to be a classic, and still one of Hitchcock’s greatest films.
