When people think of Edvard Munch’s painting, The Scream, many minds go right to the ghost-face mask in Scream. Wes Craven released the filmScream in 1996.
The movie Scream is based on personal experience and was inspired by real life serial murders in Florida. The writer for Scream wrote the story in just 3 days.The movie was filmed in just 21 days.
Scream was originally titled “Scary Movies” but Bob Weinstein changed it to scream after the Michael and Janet Jackson song with the same name he also didn’t want the audience to think it was only a comedy.
Neve Campbell stars in the lead role. Drew Barrymore was originally offered to lead the role of Sidney Prescott but she ended up playing Casey Becker who was killed off in the first 10 minutes. The film also stars Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette.
The iconic mask from the film is widely recognizable today. However, the producers didn’t like the ghostface. The film was extremely popular and went on to have 6 films in the series. Matthew Lillard was almost ‘Ghost face’ in Scream 3.
A parody of the film, Scary Movie, was ironically released due to the popularity of the film series.

It has 78% Rotten tomatoes and that’s pretty good for a horror movie.
