William Shakespeare’s work has been adapted into many works over the years. One of the most popular is 10 Things I Hate About You. It’s based on his comedy, The Taming of the Shrew. There are lots of references to the playwright throughout the film.
The film follows the Stratford sisters, Kat and Bianca. Kat is the “shrew”. Her younger sister Bianca, wants to date but can not until her sister does. Knowing how much of a challenge this could be, she enlisted the help of friends to get the equally challenging, Patrick, to get Kat to start dating. Just as comedy goes, obstacles arise and hilarity ensues.
Screen writers, Kristen Kmith and Karen McCullah got the idea for 10 things i hate about you after seeing clueless they thought it would be a good idea if they used an old story and made it modern. Screenwriter Karen McCullah’s high school boyfriend actually inspired the title, the title is based on a diary entry that Karen made in high school.
This movie was shot on sight in Washington; there were no sets used in this film. It stars Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. Some of their most memorable scenes in the film were when Kat (Stiles) was reading her poem. It was her actual real tears and they actually did it in one take.
When Heath ledger signed for Kat it was actually him singing it and it was his idea to sing “can’t take my eyes off you” ,he was particular about what he wore and what he did in that scene. On the 10th anniversary it was revealed that heath ledger and Julia stiles dated while they were filming.
This film has remained popular over the years. Movie viewers have said, “I’m definitely going to admit that 10 Things I Hate About You is hands down the best one of the top 5 best movies I’ve ever seen. Heath Ledger played his part soooooo freaking good! plus he was really hot when he was young hehe. I haven’t seen the movie that many times but I am going to watch it until it gets boring, that means I’m watching it billions of times again and again because this movie really can’t get boring.if you are thinking of watching it for the first time ,(which would be weird knowing that this movie was made in 1999) I most definitely and absolutely recommend you watch it right now this very second, even if you have to pay for it because you can’t find it, it’s still very much worth it! Again Heath Ledger is like the hottest in the movie, when he and Kat kiss it makes my heart literally melt because I one, I love romance movies like this and two, it’s literally so freaking cutteeee!”
