On July 21st, 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris announced her campaign for presidency in the coming election. Less than a month later on August 6th, Harris announced her running mate: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. As the November election grows closer, it begs the question: how exactly is the Harris and Walz campaign run faring?
Firstly, it’s important to note just how much history Harris is currently making. Following Hillary Clinton’s nomination in 2016, Harris is the second female nominee for president from a major party. In addition, she’s also the only woman of color to be nominated for presidency by a major party thus far.
Harris and Walz have been incredibly busy in the month since their campaign first launched. Harris has appealed largely to younger generations, kicking off a large portion of her campaign using social media apps like Twitter and TikTok. Currently, Harris and Walz are making their rounds through Georgia.
One of their first stops in the battleground state was at a local high school, where they attended a band performance. Harris spoke about how important younger people’s voices were, encouraging them to vote when they were able.
Overall, Harris and Walz have been widely successful in their campaign strategies. Harris has appealed to many minority voters, including an ad posted in both English and Spanish titled “Determination”, which appealed heavily to Latino voters in battleground states.
She’s gained a lot of traction and popularity using Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” as her official campaign song. In addition, she also managed to become widely supported by younger audiences when Megan Thee Stallion and Quavo performed at a rally in Atlanta on July 30th. She’s an avid supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, abortion rights, civil rights, as well as gun safety, which makes her a popular choice among liberals and younger audience, who hold a large majority of votes.
All in all, many would argue that her campaign is going well, considering how little time she’s had to organize rallies, events, and interviews. What do you think?
